Based On Expession

 On the Basis of Expression:

There are different ways of making communication in an organisation. One of the ways is by using words-whether by way of speech or by way of writing; another is by using the expression other than words, like gestures, body language etc. Therefore the communication can broadly be classified into two categories:

1. Verbal Communication:

The term verbal denotes the use of the words. When words are used in the communication, we call it verbal communication. The thoughts in words can be either conveyed either orally or by writing.

(a) Oral Communication: Oral communication is the communication by the way of uttering words, that is, speaking. Speaking is fastest, most direct type of communication. In oral communication, both the parties to the communication process-sender and receiver-exchange their ideas through oral words, either in face to face communication or through electronic devices like telephone. Oral communication comes in many forms in the organisation. It includes formal staff meetings, planned conferences, and ass meetings, important conversations are maid on day to day basis for giving directions, exchange of information, progress reviews, and maintenance of effective interpersonal relations.

(b) Written Communication: Written communication is powerful media in all walks of life.Even if we have to handle all our social and business communication on day-to-day basis, we still need to prepare written message. Written communication is in many forms of letters, circulars, notes, manuals, house magazines etc. With the advent of Internet, written communication has been facilitated. To be effective, written communication must be clear, complete, correct, and understandable.

2. Non-Verbal Communication:

Non-verbal communication involves exchanging information or transmitting data without the use of words. There are many examples of non-verbal communication like body language and facial expressions etc.

While understanding non-verbal communication one may require some knowledge of the cultural and social meanings behind the symbols and signs used.

Over the years, numerous research studies have been done to suggest that babies respond to smiling faces the world over, and that when a person sees someone else smile, he may become a bit happier as well.
