Importance of Non-Verbal Communication in a presentation or a speech.

 Various Non-Verbal Communication and their role in presentation or in speech are as follows :

1. Body Language : In a face to face communication like Presentation, a person does not communicate only through words, his whole personality, his general bearing, facial expression,postures and gestures are involved in the process.Body language is very important in oral presentation, because its share in oral communication is more 50%. It is common tendency of the audience to make up their minds according to what they see. They accept the presentation mostly on the basis of body language of the presents.Nervousness, anger, fear, scorn, determination,horror, sympathy, pity, lack of understanding,disinterestedness, resentment can be much better expressed through body language than through words.

2. Postures : When a person is called upon to speak, he should walk sprightly and stand at ease,keep his hand on the sides. He should not fidget,but try to feel relaxed. While speaking or presenting,he should use the hand for appropriate gestures.These actions are called Posture, which are done to express something action.

Audience very closely and analytically watch the posture of the presenter during presentation,whereas the presenter can only experience his own posture. Audiences can analyze presenter's posture and, therefore, it is beneficial for the presenter to pay attention to audience and try to watch their facial expressions while speaking. During rehearsal a presenter can analyze his own posture standing before a mirror. Thus, he can make suitable/desirable changes in his posture.

3. Facial Expression : Facial expression should always be befitting to situation and the subject,otherwise it will convey wrong message. Eye contact is a very powerful source of oral presentation, because the audience guess the seriousness and credibility of presenter through eye contact mostly.

Eye contact is one of the most immediate and effective means of establishing report with an audience. One should look at ones' audience and pause for a while before saying anything. To start speaking as soon as one reaches the dais shows lack of poise and creates a poor impression on audience.
While speaking, one should maintain eye contact with audience, and should look from one pair of eyes to another around the room.
4. Voice Modulation : One must use his voice properly during presentation or speech, if he wish to become an effective speaker. A good voice is gift of nature but anyone can improve the quality of voice with proper training.
5. Aesthetic : This is the type of communication that takes place through creative expressions like playing instrumental music, dancing, painting and
sculpturing.
6. Symbolic: This type of communication makes use of religion, status, or ego-building symbols. This is also an important non verbal communication for presentations or speeches.
7. Walking : Walking of the presenter also
influence the audience. If his walking shows self-confidence then it will have a positive impact on the audience.
8. Appearance : Personal appearance of the presenter affects the oral presentation to a large extent, because the audience from their opinion on the basis of what they see.
A neatly dressed man with pleasant expression will find it easier to establish a rapport with other.
