Public Speaking
Public speaking is most important part of our life and it can be viewed from the stand point of individual. The organization and the social stature effecting us. Public speaking is a major means of any person's professional success. When one apply for a job, the interviewers assess one, based on the ability to communicate. This ability is constructive in one's progress. It differentiates an exception employee from an average one. A person who can organize his such abilities when speak, the audience evaluates his personality and if the response is good, it will certainly enhance one's self esteem expand.
The Preparation of Pubiic Speaking:
Careful planning is essential for successful speeches. The better preparation in advance gives more confidence on stage. Preparation usually requires the following steps :
1. Determine the Purpose : Each speech can have a general and specific purpose. The most common general purpose of business talks is to inform or instruct, to persuade to entertain. The specific purpose is to achieve a definite specific result.
2. Analyse the Audience and the Situation: For public speaking audience analysis is very essential activity. One should analyse the audience and the situation in order to speak successfully in public.
If we talk in public, government or social groups, we need to find out the size of the group, age range, interests, goals and occupation.
Presenting a speech of introduction demands knowledge about the audience. This preparation may be more intensive than preparing for an informative statements.
3. Choose the Main Idea for Message : This step is real preparation for the speech. In this step we prepare for the main idea of our message.Importance to this step is because the success of the speech is very much dependent on this step.
4. Research on the Topic Thoroughly: in this step we research thoroughly on the topic as the audience can also have knowledge about the topic.So we have to be very careful while researching on the topic.
When we know the purpose, our audience have some idea to be covered we proceed to collect the needed facts. We don't feel that we must stay with our first main ideas. This may change as we research our topic.
5. Organise the Data: ln this step we organise our data in way that it will show a continuity and completeness. A good speech have three parts
(i). Introduction,
(ii). Discussion,
(iii). Conclusion.
Preparing a speech is similar to the written report.We organise data under various headings followed by facts to support main points, because of a specified time unit for a speech. We usually must omit much of the detailed data of a long written report and concentrate on perhaps two or three topics.
6. Plan Visual aids if Desirable: To help get our message across to the audience we may also need to plan meaningful visual aids for the display at the appropriate time. These are charts, projector sheets,high technology visual aids etc.
